Motorcycle meeting through Benasque with Gustavo Cuervo

On this occasion, we invite you to learn a little more about motorcycle routes and experiences with a great expert, who has spent more than 40 years and two million kilometers traveling on and off-road motorcycles across five continents, in addition to several published books, our friend Gustavo Cuervo.

You have been traveling around the world by motorcycle for over 40 years and accumulated two million kilometers. Where does your passion for motorcycles come from?

My family has always been very motorcycling, my father passed on to all of us siblings his passion for motorcycles of all kinds. From a very young age we started riding dirt bikes and minibikes, then competing in enduro and speed and later, on big bikes to travel the world.

What do you value most when selecting your routes?

I like all countries and regions, but especially the mountains where the landscapes are more spectacular and there are more twists. They have to be routes with little traffic where other tourist attractions can be included such as monuments, gastronomy, ethnic groups and of course landscapes.

What aspects would you highlight about Benasque for motorcycle lovers?

The Benasque area, as an excellent representative of the Central Pyrenees, offers the motorcyclist everything he is looking for and much more. Magnificent roads full of curves that lead to fantastic corners and charming villages. Great dirt tracks between peaks and lonely valleys, exquisite gastronomy and the friendliness of the people. Benasque is one of the best bases of operations for making routes throughout the Aragonese Pyrenees.

Any anecdotes during any of your routes in the Aragonese Pyrenees?

In the Pyrenees you have to let yourself be surprised and be willing to be surprised behind each curve with something different and beautiful. The smells of spring and autumn are very different, just like the colors. The white winters and the bright summers. A postcard image that awaits you on the way back from any curve with a village where the bell tower of its century-old church stands out or the cattle using the road as their natural route to the pastures. In addition, you can fill your memory with unforgettable experiences with the multiple activities that can be done between the peaks, mountains, valleys and rivers. Hiking, paragliding, rafting, or simply contemplating the magical sunsets. The anecdotes arise on their own. I am left with the peace and integration into nature that invades me every time I travel through these places on a motorbike.

You are organizing the BMW Boxer International Meeting again in Benasque. What are the aspects for selecting Benasque for this type of meeting?

Benasque is an excellent meeting point for this type of event. It is at an appropriate distance from the big Spanish cities, Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza... and also from France. It has all kinds of services and landscapes that surprise everyone who travels there by motorcycle. For group trips and activities it offers all the facilities for both catering and hotel business. We were very comfortable at the 1st Boxer Meeting where everything worked perfectly and that is why we will always repeat it, in addition to organizing other types of events based in Benasque.

When you do these types of routes, what type of accommodation do you look for?

The ideal for a motorcycle trip are accommodations that offer tranquility to rest comfortably, with a garage of course for our motorcycle companion, good breakfasts that are the most important meal to start the day well and professional treatment. Also that comply with COVID measures to safeguard our health and that of everyone.

The II International Boxer BMW Meeting is held to pay tribute to the legendary Boxer engine, now very close to its 100 years of history, and to honor Pedro Sancho, creator of the event creator of the meeting and passionate motorcyclist who left us in 2020 traveling through Nepal. It is scheduled for May 21, 22 and 23, 2021, and incorporates a program with different routes depending on the motorcycle and suitable for all tastes, from classic to trail. It also includes conferences and talks given by expert travelers, brand ambassadors and specialist journalists on the history of the Boxer engine, tasting of a selection of the famous gastronomy of the area, as well as many other surprises.
