Sustainable tourism

Here at SOMMOS Hoteles we cultivate sustainable quality tourism, providing travellers with a wide variety of ways of encountering nature within our glorious Benasque Valley. This includes mountain tourism, bike tourism, and motorbike tourism amongst others, all of which will foster the Valley's growth as a tourist destination. This also contributes to the social and economic development of the area by way of generating quality jobs for everyone, based on equality and diversity.

Covid-19: Safe Accommodation

Furthermore, we have a commitment to the well-being of our workers and guests, meaning we are constantly working to ensure measures that allow us to offer spaces that are both comfortable and safe for one and all. Hence, our hotels have the "Safe Accommodation" seal of approval against Covid-19 granted by the Government of Aragon. This certifies compliance with the measures in the manual compiled jointly by the "Hostelería de España" organisation and the Spanish Institute for Quality Tourism (ICTE).

Cardiac-protected areas & accessibility

In addition, our hotels are cardiac-protected areas and the SOMMOS Hotel Aneto has received the Equalitas Vitae certificate for Accessibility and Adaptability. This is the result of improved access in our hotel for people with reduced mobility.

SOMMOS Hotel Aneto

The SOMMOS Hotel Aneto building was conceived to harness all that is new, while maintaining the guarantees inherent in tradition. An intimate, friendly place where Mother Nature flows throughout. The hallmark of this hotel is the quality of its wood and the large windows that give out onto the gorgeous landscapes of the Pyrenees. Interior designer Vicente García Plana designed the hotel to induce an emotional response. His sculptures blend into and imitate the shapes of the hotel and the country around, evoking the Ésera river and the light of the Pyrenees.

Hotel Benasque Spa

With a location that is second to none, the SOMMOS Hotel Benasque Spa building features views of the Pico de Cerler and is ensconced within extensive gardens. It is the ultimate expression of blending and melding into the country around.

Environmentally friendly installations and practices

Environmentally friendly facilities and practices

With the firm purpose of providing exceptional and more environmentally friendly experiences, we continuously work on implementing sustainable initiatives and practices in our hotels. One of them is the use of eco-friendly cleaning products certified with the European Ecolabel, carefully formulated with biodegradable ingredients that minimize their environmental impact. Additionally, we promote the use of cellulose items certified with FSC, guaranteeing their origin from sustainable sources.

Another step we have taken is the adoption of Ecolabel-certified dispensers for bathroom products, which also allows us to contribute to the reduction of plastic packaging.

To further advance in this direction, we have introduced carbonation machines that enable our guests to create sparkling water or their favorite beverages with just the press of a button. These machines not only provide convenience but also contribute to reducing single-use plastic bottles in our facilities.

Sustainable mobility

In line with our commitment to taking care of the environment, we have launched several initiatives to promote sustainable mobility, among which are the installation of charging bays for electric vehicles in our hotels, so that our guests can enjoy the experiences we offer and charge their electric vehicles while they rest.

And now we have launched our new Standard Double Room + E-bikes offer which includes the electric bike rental service, to ride around the complete network of trails and routes that the Benasque Valley has to offer, and enjoy wonderful countryside and unique places.

Sustainable buildings per Government of Aragon regulations

Energy efficiency and sustainability were the cornerstones in the construction of our hotels, which is why they are included as an example of the use of renewable energies in the book from the Government of Aragon entitled “La energía en Aragón” (Energy in Aragon).

Construction in the tradition of our forefathers

Locally-sourced materials were used to construct the hotels, e.g., the stone excavated to provide the masonry for the façade followed the traditions of the past.

Thermal solar panels

Moreover, we have solar thermal panels for both the DHW and heating the pool, not to mention a climate control system that makes use of the flow of the Ésera river to cool the building in summer. Then there is the tinted glass used in the north and south walls, the double seal joinery, slate roof with its own air flow chamber and the special fittings. All these elements combine to ensure energy efficiency and reduced noise pollution.

Dishes featuring kilometre zero produce

Our cafés and restaurants aim to offer our customers a wide range of culinary treats, which comprise dishes/recipes featuring locally-sourced seasonal produce from the gardens of the valley. This means unbeatably tasty ingredients that are more environmentally friendly and, at the same time, promoting the growth of the local economy in the Valley.

That is why we encourage our workers, suppliers and customers to be aware of actions that ensure a rational use of natural resources and look after the mountains Lots of little gestures make a big difference.

Digitalization, automation and control system and building and other facilities management system

At SOMMOS HOTELES we are committed to improving the energy efficiency of our hotel facilities, and for this reason we have implemented a digitalization, automation and control system and a building and other facilities management system at the SOMMOS Hotel Benasque.

Specifically, a new system for digitization, automation and control of the facilities has been implemented, which allows the following:

• Monitor, record, analyze and allow continuous adaptation of energy consumption to the use of the rooms.

• It allows communication with technical facilities, as well as ensuring their centralized control.

• It reduces the energy consumption of the facilities when the rooms are not in use.

The new heating control and regulation system for the rooms and common areas will be implemented through an integrated modular system that is capable of centrally operating and recording the climate control system of each room.

The actions are benefiting the environment since they reduce the consumption of the facilities and, consequently, the consumption of fossil fuels will be reduced.
