Motorbike routes: benasque valley

Let us introduce you to 6 different motorbike routes to share with friends amidst the Pyrenees, with Benasque Valley as your starting point. Trips by motorbike with friends would just not be the same without the turns, scenery, culture, wine and gastronomy – and that's exactly what is on offer here!

Our routes feature various stops during the day, with one lengthy stop for lunch and a pre-booked activity.

The Palaces

The Palaces

We head on through Ainsa and Alquezar, two shining lights among Spanish villages, before reaching Bodega Sommos. Here, we will savour a sampling menu comprising two starters, meat, fish, dessert, coffee and wine, followed by a guided visit lasting 90 minutes. This will conclude with a wine tasting featuring 3 signature wines.

Then, we head to the Renaissance village of Fonz with its numerous palaces and manor houses. Don't miss out on the spectacular 'Plaza Mayor' (Main Square), declared a Site of Historic and Artistic Interest. From there, we continue our motorbike route along the turns of San Roque pass to Graus. Enjoy the painted façades of the colourful Main Square there before heading back towards Benasque.

Distance: 287 km. Approx. riding time

The Gorges

The Gorges

Our biking route begins in Benasque Valley as we cross Ventamillo Gorge, heading along the N260 up to Ainsa. From there, we head southwards until coming in sight of the fortified tower at Abizanda. Riding alongside Grado Reservoir, we head into the village of Barbastro and its historic town centre.

There Bodega Sommos awaits us with a sampling menu comprising two starters, meat, fish, dessert, coffee and wine, followed by a guided visit lasting 90 minutes. This will conclude with a wine tasting featuring 3 signature wines.

Heading back out onto the road, we follow the turns and tunnels of Olvena Gorge all the way to Benabarre, heart of Ribagorza county, and its imposing castle. After catching a glimpse of Sopeira Monastery, we cross Escales Gorge before making our way back over the peaks of Espina and Fadas into Benasque Valley.

Distance: 270 km. Approx. riding time

The Witches

The Witches

This motorbike route takes us eastwards through Benasque Valley into neighbouring Aran Valley. After heading through Bonaigua pass, we ride towards the Bruixa d'Or – probably the most famous of all lottery administrations in Spain. Once there, we will perform the good luck ritual comprised of staring intently at the Golden Witch (Bruja de Oro) for some 13 seconds.

Then, we ride off a few kilometres beyond Puebla de Segur to Salás del Pallars. Lunch is taken in this mediaeval village, before we travel back through time courtesy of the highly original "8 Botigues" museum, part of the crowning glory of trade and advertising of the early 20th century. The guided visit in and amongst the age-old stores lasts 90 minutes.

Once back in Benasque Valley, we head to the Brujas theme park in Laspaúles, a village renowned for its witchcraft.

Distance: 280 km. Approx. riding time

The 5 Rivers

The 5 Rivers

Bending, winding and turning, we leave the Cinca river in the rear-view mirror to follow the meandering Ara river to the gates of Ordesa National Park. Following a walk through the streets of Torla, we head onwards to Piedrafita de Jaca to try out the renowned Tena Valley 'migas' (breadcrumbs).

Digestion is aided by a pleasant guided walk through Cuniacha Wildlife Park, where we can see animals past and present from the Pyrenees.

A lengthy straight run alongside the Gallego river provides a relaxing ride before we head back in the direction of Boltaña via Guarguerá, where the Guarga river rises.

Putting Ainsa and its castle in the rear view, we return along the twists and turns of the Esera river through Ventamillo Gorge.

Distance: 308 km. Approx. riding time

The Temples

The Temples

From Benasque, we set out on our motorbike route heading towards the Buddhist Temple in Panillo following the winding roads of Fueva Valley. After a brief stop, we move on towards Torreciudad Sanctuary, riding through some beautiful landscape dominated by the Grado Reservoir.

Not long after, we reach Bodega Sommos, where we can enjoy the sampling menu comprising two starters, meat, fish, dessert, coffee and wine. This is followed by a guided visit lasting 90 minutes, which concludes with a wine tasting featuring 3 signature wines.

We mount up again and ride to Benabarre taking the route least travelled yet most pleasant until we fetch up at the doors of the wonderful Roda Cathedral in Isabena.

Distance: 287 km. Approx. riding time

A trip to the Aneto

A trip to the Aneto

Of all our routes, this is the most mountainous as we climb up to 8 mountain passes in the immediate surroundings of the Aneto. Although we never actually get to fully appreciate it, we do wind our way around the highest peak in the Pyrenees.

Heading into France gives us the chance to indulge in a motorbike route that takes us down the other side of the Pyrenees. We head to Bagnères de Luchon, where we stop to enjoy the thermal baths at Balnea thermal leisure centre in Loudenvielle. There, too, we will partake of a very healthy, tasty and notably French menu. Don't forget your trunks!

The return ride back to Spain passes through the gorgeous village of San Lary, before heading through the Bielsa-Aragnouet tunnel. We come full circle, riding along the narrow road at the feet of the Peña Montañesa before heading back into Benasque Valley through Ventamillo Gorge.

Distance: 282 km. Approx. riding time
